The
Bhoomi Pujan for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya was concluded amid grand
celebrations yesterday. Now, with the successful foundation laying for Lord
Ram’s temple and the images of the temple’s model going viral on social media,
many people are curious about the finer details related to the construction of
the Ram Mandir.
Here are
15 facts about the Ayodhya Ram Mandir and its construction which officially
began yesterday.
1.
Expected To Be The Largest Temple In India
According
to Ashish Sompura, son of Chandrakant Sompura, the architect who designed the
Ram Mandir before 30 years ago, the Ram Mandir is set to become the largest
temple to be built in India. The height will be about 161 feet while the area
of the structure will be 28,000 square feet.
2. Holy
Soil From 2,587 Places To Be Used for Foundation
It is
said that holy soil from the places of numerous religious-cultural significance
was collected for the occasion of foundation laying. Reportedly, holy soil from
the
2,587 places across India has been collected
for the same.
Holy
soil from places such as Yamunotri, Haldighati, Jhansi Fort, Massacre Ghat in
Kanpur, Chittorgarh, Shivaji's Fort, Brahmaji's peg in Bithoor, Prayarag where
Chandrashekhar was martyred, Golden Temple, Nana Rao Peshwa Fort, Bengal,
Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, Syntu Ksiar, Jowai and Nartiang in Meghalaya,
Kamakhya temple, Agni Theertham in Rameshwaram as well as soil from former PM
Atal Bihari Vajpayee's ancestral home in Bateshwar village in Agra was all
collected.
3. Holy
Water From 150 Rivers
Reportedly,
the foundation laying ceremony made use of holy water from 150 river which were
collected by two brothers Radhey Shyam Pandey and Shabd Vaigyanik Mahakavi
Triphala. In the collection was holy water from eight rivers, three seas, and
soils from sixteen places of Sri Lanka. Additionally, holy water from
Mansarovar was also brought in. Water was also collected from the two rivers in
Medhalaya’s Jaintia Hills – Myntdu and Myntang. A 600-year-old Durga Temple
located in the West Jaintia Hills makes it a holy site.
4. Time
Capsule To Be Placed 2,000 Feet Below The Temple
It is
also being reported that a time capsule shall be placed 2,000 feet under the
temple structure to protect the temple’s history even thousand years from now.
The capsule will contain facts related to the Ram Janmabhoomi, Ayodhya and Lord
Ram and shall be written on a copper plate.

Donation of Gold & Silver Bricks are donated From All Over India
It is no
hidden fact that donations in the form of gold and silver bricks have been made
to the Ram Mandir Trust to support the cause of temple construction. From
celebrities to politicians, there has been a contribution from everyone.
So far
the Uttar Pradesh Bullion Association has donated silver bricks has weighing
more than 33 kg, self-proclaimed descendent of Mughals Prince Yakub Habeebuddin
Tucy has offered a gold brick weighing one kg,
Hyderabad-based jeweller named K Srinivas has also donated a one kg gold
brick and a five kg silver brick
Reportedly,
Hyderabad volunteer organization Pawan Kumar Foundation will donate 34 silver
and gold bricks to the temple trust for the construction of Ram temple. Even
saints from Tamil Nadu donated two gold and silver bricks with 'Shri Ram'
inscribed on them in Tamil. The gold brick weighs 5 kg and the silver one
weighs 20 kg.
It is
also reported that the Jain community of Ahmedabad has also donated 24 kg of
silver bricks for the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. Even Congress
leader Kamal Nath announced the donation of 11 silver bricks on behalf of MP
Congress. Reportedly, trust chairman Mahant Nritya Gopal Das got the silver
brick weighing 40 kg made that was used during the Bhoomi Pujan ceremony.
6.
Monetary Donations In Crores Have Been Made
Not just
gold and silver bricks, even monetary donations are also being made in huge
numbers by important people for the construction of the Ram Temple. Spiritual
guru Morari Bapu announced a donation of Rs 5 crore, UP Deputy CM Keshav Prasad
Maurya donated Rs 6.60 lakh, while UP CM Yogi Adityanath had donated Rs 11
lakh.
Mahavir
Mandir Trust of Patna has also announced a donation of Rs 10 crore while
Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray also offered to donate Rs 1 crore to the Trust
in March.
7. Rs
500 Crore Funds To Revamp Ayodhya Temple Town
Not just
a grand temple, but even the temple town of Ayodhya is all set to undergo a
grand makeover. To support this cause, PM Modi will reportedly launch
development projects worth Rs 500 crore for Ayodhya. The projects include
expansion to four-lane of the 36.7 km National Highway 30 between Azamgarh and
Bahraich via Ayodhya, modernised bus station, police barrack having a capacity
of 200 people and the likes.
8.
Special ‘Shri Ram’ Inscribed Bricks For The Temple
Special
name inscribed bricks, some of which have been lying in wait for the last 30
years will be used for the temple construction. These bricks, often called Ram
Shilas were collected from devotees from all over the country in 1989 before
the ‘shilanyas’ took place in Ayodhya. Thousands of those will be put to use
now to build the temple’s foundation.
In
addition to those, 51,000 bricks will be donated by a UP brick kiln owner who
is making a special batch of bricks using Domath soil with Lord Ram’s name on
them. Each brick is expected to weigh around 3 kg.
9. No
Use Of Iron Or Steel In the Temple Construction
ANI has
reported that the temple would be constructed using stones only and no iron and
steel will be used to build it. The supervisor of the temple construction
workshop Anu Bhai Sompura also said that the construction would be done without
the use of iron, while the wood, white cement and copper would be used.
10.
Stones From Lord Hanuman’s Birthplace To Be Used
Stones
from Karnataka’s Anjanadri Hill, which is said to be Lord Hanuman’s birthplace,
will be used in the construction of the Ram Temple.
11.
Silver & Gold Bricks Will Be Encashed For Money
Mahant
Kamal Nayas Das has said that the donated gold and silver bricks will not be
used in the construction of the temple, but will instead be put in the bank
lockers to be encashed in need as and when required.
12. The
Temple Has Been Designed By The Sompura Architects
Ahmedabad-based
15th generation architect family, the Sompuras, who have constructed over 200
temples in India and abroad will be creating the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
Chandrakant Sompura had designed the first temple sketch before 30 years ago,
which is now being modified and reused. The Sompuras designed the Somnath
temple and Akshardham in Gujarat, as well as Swaminarayan mandir in Mumbai and
Birla Mandir in Calcutta amongst many others.

L&T Will Be Involved In Temple Construction
Construction
giant Larsen and Toubro (L&T) will spearhead the Ram Mandir construction in
Ayodhya which is expected to be completed in the next 3-3.5 years.
14.
Sculptor’s Work Started In 2013 To Be Displayed In The Temple
Assam-based
sculptor Ranjit Mandal who has been making statues depicting Lord Ram's journey
from childhood till coronation since 2013, will be displayed in the courtyard
of the Ram Mandir. It will be called the Ram Katha Kunj and shall exhibit 125
scripts from Lord Ram's life.

Salient Features Of The Grand Temple
The
two-storeyed temple will reportedly be 268ft in length, 140ft in width and 128
ft in height. The ground floor will portray the story of Lord Ram’s birth and
his childhood, while the first floor will have a layout of the Ram Darbar.
The
temple will be constructed using pink sandstone called ‘Bansi Paharpur’, which
will be brought in from Bharatpur in Rajasthan.
The Ram
Mandir will be built on 10 acres of land and the remaining 57 acres will be
developed as the temple complex. The structure is set to have five mandaps -
kudu, rang, nritya, kirtan and prarthana.
Reportedly,
the main structure will have 360 pillars, and shall be designed keeping the
Vastu Shastra in mind. To be created in the iconic Nagar style, Shilpa Shastra
specifications will be included in the temple’s creation.
Stones
from Banshi mountains will be used for the construction and four smaller
temples will surround the main structure.
